MMMD
MERCY'S MAGNIFICENT MUSIC DICTIONARY! Our Second years have come up with the concept for the MMMD where each month we will put up all of our key words onto the MMMD board. Then at the end of the Month they get added into our Glossary section at the back of our copy.

SQUILT
SQUILT - Otherwise known as Super Quiet Un-Interuppted Listening Time.
This time is dedicated to letting our students become completely immersed in a musical experience. The aim: The aim is to incorporate some quality music into our students lives and I feel that it is a great way to build listening skills, a critical ear and attention while also giving them a repertoire of great music! |

Performance
It is the ethos of the Music Department that every Music Student learns how to play an instrument during their time in Mercy Secondary School, and / or be involved in the school choir!
First years
Our First years have begun learning the Recorder! This year they will progress through the notes on the recorder and become more confident in their playing.
We will have 3 practical tests throughout the year - Christmas, Easter and Summer.
Second Years
Our second years are currently doing group singing in class. We perform as a choir with each group taking on a different part. And each group performs a song they have prepared together.
Later in the year we will look at learning an instrument. By the end of Second year each student will have decided what will be their Practical option for Junior Cert - Solo Singing, Group singing, Solo instrument or group instrument.
Third Years
This year there is no Junior cert music class, however, we do have Music once a week.
During this class this we do some SQUILT time, some group singing and rhythm compositions.
Some of the 3rd year girls were very lucky to have been selected for Uilleann pipes lessons and they have embarked on their traditional music tuition
